Biking in Palma

Palma de Mallorca
Spain

More about us...

Palma and more generally Mallorca is a paradise for cyclists. In town, an already large network of cycle lanes is constantly being extended, making cycling around the city one of the fastest (and nicest) ways to get from A to B. The cycle track that runs along the Paseo Maritimo has become a magnet for visitors and locals alike, and extends past the airport all the way to Arenal 15 kms away to the south. It is now also possible to cycle all the way to Santa Ponsa (via Portals) to the North on the cycle track, bar a gap between Club de Mar and Illetes.
Other popular local short rides include Cami de sa Creu, a narrow road leading to a 400 meter pass right above Palma town. The road starts at junction 9 on the ring road (next to Genova), and the return trip can be made via Establiments or Calvia. The ride up to the Monument above Genova is also popular and can be extended to an off road ride towards Bendinat, Portals or Calvia.
Further out of town, a large number of signposted cycle routes crisscross the island, while on some of the remote rural lanes bicycles even have priority on car traffic! The Sierra Tramuntana to the north offers good cycling for the hardy (or the unhurried). To the south east of town, the tracks towards Arenal and Llucmajor offer a more relaxing but still scenic and rewarding option.
Still reasonably close to town, the area above Bunyola towards the Cas Guarriger outdoor center is a popular off road and downhill destination.

Note that bicycles are transported free of charge in special compartments on the TIB train line towards Sa Pobla / Manacor, and that most public buses will take at least two bicycles in their luggage compartment. This allows easy access to areas of the sierra or of the plains that would otherwise be too distant to visit
