Martha’s Vineyard is a beautiful island unspoiled by development with an amazing diversity of coastal cliffs, hills, forests, picturesque villages and marvelous country roads. Each of the six towns are also diverse with their own distinct look and feel, and it is no wonder that celebrities and boaters alike are attracted to the privacy and the laid back, cosmopolitan style. There are three major harbors where large yachts can be accommodated. Vineyard Haven (also known as Tisbury) is the island’s primary commercial port with deep water and a choice of excellent marinas, shops and restaurants. Edgartown, the historical center, was once a gorgeous old whaling port as evidenced by sprawling Captain’s mansions, manicured gardens, tree lined streets and elegant stores. Oak Bluffs was originally an old summer colony and features a very quaint harbor and a famous row of colorful gingerbread houses that beckons to another era. Lastly, visitors by water should also stop at Menemsha, a charming fishing village located at the west tip of the island – a great place to watch the sun set or buy lobster and fish right off the boats. From shopping and live music to bike trails and miles of deserted beaches, the “Vineyard” has it all.
