TRAVEL AGENTS
All who have visited this beautiful, sandy island off Cape Cod agree that it is a truly magical place steeped in rich history and gently tempered by new world luxury and elegance that has come with carefully controlled development. The village of Nantucket was once a major whaling port and home to wealthy ship owners, captains and all the many tradesmen needed to support a large fleet of wooden ships travelling as far as the Pacific. A walk down well preserved cobblestone streets reveals opulent mansions (some converted to beautiful inns and first class restaurants), antique stores, art galleries and elegant boutiques. The working waterfront is built around the Nantucket Boat Basin Marina which hosts several well known events and is a popular destination for any visiting yachts of all sizes. There are many good provisioning options with excellent seafood and meat suppliers, full size groceries and fresh street-side produce , most within walking distance of the docks. Outside of the main village are several charming villages – most notably Siasconset on the East end of the island – all accessible by a network of bike paths. The area is also a surfer’s paradise with many beautiful beaches.
