As part of the Mid Coast region of Maine, Boothbay Harbor is a perfect stop over point when heading east from Portland and boasts a beautiful, natural harbor. Built along the meandering waterfront is a quaint, charming fishing village with a very relaxing atmosphere. The area’s fine wooden boat building tradition continues on a smaller scale, and the fishing industry remains quite active along the many commercial wharfs in town. Considered by many to be “the soul of the coast”, this picturesque harbor is a very popular yachting destination due to the great choice of delightful stores and unique restaurants scattered along the flower-lined streets and old wharfs, not to mention the impressive variety of 18th century New England architecture. One of Maine’s treasures, the area’s rocky coastline with numerous islets, quiet coves and beautiful lighthouses make it a boater’s paradise. Also worth a visit is the nearby town of East Boothbay and – up the Sheepscot River a few miles – the scenic town of Wiscasset.
