Officially a part of France only since 1860, Nice is renowned for its ‘douceur de vivre’ or ‘sweet life style’. Today it is the largest town of the French Riviera, the 5th largest town in France and home of the second busiest French airport. It is a beautiful and highly attractive Mediterranean town with many facets, including a busy urban sprawl; the famous miles long waterfront ‘Promenade des Anglais’ lined on one side by a beach and on the other by majestic Belle Epoque style hotels and mansions ; a charming old town and colorful harbor. Nice is also a cultural destination with world class museums, archaeological ruins dating from Roman time, a shopping heaven with an array of boutiques, Provencal or antiques shops and a first class choice of gourmet restaurants. Its open air market, held at the entrance of the old town is one of the largest around and every winter during Mardis Gras, Nice Carnival attracts a large crowd. In summary, Nice has something for everyone and offers an engaging balance between urban energy and old world grace. It is therefore not surprising that it has become a favorite port base to many yachts.

We know, we know…   You loved our yearly printed guides, filled with updated info about your favorite cruising destinations and gorgeous photos from professional photographers.   They were flying off the shelves in marinas, boatyards and marine outlets, all over the harbors we covered.  Many of you were even collecting them, summer after summer.  And it is true that, since the launch of the Yacht Insider’s Guide publication in 2009, whether it was for the French Med, the Balearics Islands or New England, the focus has been on our printed guides.
