Megisti Perriptero {tabac}

The last shop on the harbour by the square is the main tabac on the island. They also sell a few basic things like pasta and biscuits.
Most useful for phone and wifi top ups for all major communications in Greece.

A very pleasant Pension close to the harbour owned and run by Damien and Monika. There are 7 rooms to choose from all pleasantly furnished and decorated in a traditional Greek style with fresh Mediterranean colours. Each room has en suite bathrooms, refrigerators and kettles. The rooms are spacious and bright with good ventilation.

Hotel Kastellorizo

This boutique Hotel consists of 14 tastefully decorated apartments and suites set within 5 separate houses. The ammenities for each apartment are what you would find in any 5 star hotel, giving a little bit of luxury and comfort. Directly on the harbour front is a sunbathing area and private access to swimming in the harbour, children's splash pool and thalasso therapy pool.

Megisti Hotel

The Megisti Hotel has one of the best locations on Kastellorizo, situated at the harbour entrance overlooking the sea.
The Hotel was renovated a few years ago, and now has four luxury suites and 15 tastefully decorated rooms all with a sea view.
There is a beautiful sun terrace with access directly into the the crystal clear sea.
The Hotel also organizes weddings and special events.

Kas Market

The island of Kastellorizo depends on the ferry service for many things, including the delivery of food and household goods.
Most of the island restaurants and residents visit the Friday fruit and vegetable market in Kas, Turkey. They now have a household and clothing market on Tuesdays.
Several boats leave from Kastellorizo on Friday and Tuesday, but book your ticket early to reserve your place. Passports must be given in the day before to add you to the transit log.

Aussie Bar

Open during the day until late at night.
This bar has sunbeds on the harbourside for a relaxing time, but comes awake at night as one of the most popular bars on the island.

Faros Bar

Open from morning until late at night. This bar is one of the main hangouts on the island. The bar is located underneath the lighthouse at the head of the harbour-hence the name Faros!
The building has seats all around overlooking the sea, lots of big umbrellas and sunbeds to chill out and sunbathe.
This bar comes alive late at night when it is very busy with all nationalities and ages. They always play a good selection of music.

Radio Cafe

This popular and friendly cafe is run by the lovely Elma and Vangelis. Situated directly on the harbour side, they take advantage of the morning shade to serve the best breakfast and lunch on Kastellorizo. Favorites include fruit salad with yoghurt and honey, fresh juice and well presented toasties, sandwiches and snacks. Also poular in the evening for drinks, ice cream - wonderful music and a nice ambience. There is also a computer available to use free of charge and wifi.
They also have a small carpentry business making furniture from reclaimed wood.

Alexandra's Restaurant

One of the best and most popular restaurants on the island. Superb home cooked Greek food, fish and shellfish.
Hard to beat for quality and price. They also have a very good wine selection.
Friendly family owned taverna, book ahead to ensure a table harbour side.

Lazarakis Restaurant

One of the oldest and best known restaurants for visiting yachts, situated right by the small yacht quay. Many of the yachts that moor there eat in this restaurant making it very busy and popular. Good fish and seafood, home cooked Greek dishes with a good wine selection.
Book your table early to ensure the best table and ambience.
Wifi is available.

Another restaurant by the yacht quay; this is also popular with the visiting yachts. Good seafood and fresh fish amongst other dishes.

Platania / Mediterraneo

Situated on the square at the top of the hill next to the Church of Constantinos and Eleni; this open air restaurant under the eucalypyus trees is better known as Mediterraneo, after the Italian movie, which was filmed on the island.
Very good home cooked Greek food.
This square is the main venue for the Island's festivals-so book a table well in advance during one of these events.

The Olive Garden

A very nice restaurant owned and run by Damien & Monika. The Olive Garden is set back in the little square under a shady grapevine.
They offer a wide choice of salads, Greek food and more european dishes, specialities include goat and lamb cooked in the oven, as well as grilled meat and kebabs on the BBQ. They also cook good pizzas on special nights.
The adjoining shop sells some lovely gifts and house decor, such as lamps, ceramics, mirrors etc.
The restaurant also has wifi.

To Paragadi

Fantastic fish and seafood restaurant owned by a local fisherman Kosta, and run by the family.
Fishing several times a week ensures the best catch.
They also offer a range of meat and pasta dishes. Lovely display and presentation of food.
Very friendly and busy restaurant right on the harbourside.

The Bakery

On such a small island there is very little need for more than one bakery, however they do sell a wide range of baked goods from basic bread, cakes, pizzas, cheese and spinach pies etc. It is often full during the early hours of the morning when everyone has finished partying for the night, they head straight to the bakery for breakfast!
From the center of the harbour walk into the small square and you will see the sign for the bakery.

Agora Shop

Tucked into the corner of the old fish market is a small dark little shop with shelves stacked to the ceiling. On closer inspection this store sells the same things as the little supermarket, they are just harder to spot!

Castle and Museum

On the headland above the harbour sits the ruins of the 14th Century Castle of the Knights of St John, one of many Crusader Fortresses built throughout the Dodecanese. This is now home to the island museum and houses some interesting artefacts and archealogy. The Greek flag proudly flies from the top most point of the fortress.

Church of Constantine and Eleni

This impressive looking church in the square at the top of the hill was never finished, the coloumns inside the church are reputedly from the ancient ruins of Patara in Turkey. By the side of the church near to the Mediterraneo Taverna is the Ossuary or Honeftiro in Greek, it has a small plaque with a skull and cross bones above the door.
As well as the school in the square there are the churches of Agios Spiridion and Agios Panagyria {the Virgin Mary}.

Lycian Tomb

Just beneath the Castle on the path around the cliff side is a lonely little Lycian Tomb from the 4thC BC.
The Turkish Lycian coastline has an abundance of these tombs carved into the rock and with such close proximity to this area, it is inevitable that there would be similarities in the archaeology.

Ottoman Mosque and Museum

Right at the harbour entrance is the little Ottoman Mosque which has been restored andnow houses an Ethnological Museum with a small but nice collection of photographs, doors, utensils, jewellery and local costumes.

Paleocastro-Acropolis

Up the hill close to the airport is the Paleocastro, or Acropolis.
The ruins may not be of great interest to many but you can scramble around for a good hour. Probably the best time to go is just before sunset as the vantage point is superb for sunset photos over the surrounding small islands and sea.

St George of the Mountain

Behind the harbour on the top road are the whitewashed stone steps that lead all the way up the mountain.
This is a wonderful walk with views over the harbour, surrounding islands and Turkey. At the top of the mountain is the large church of St George of the Mountain, and if you scout around the flat rocks in this area you will come across the ancient 'patitiria' circles carved into the rock for crushing olives and grapes.

The Blue Cave

The Blue Grotto {Parasta} which is found just after Navlakas Bay is well worth a visit. The early morning light shines into the cave turning the water into a shocking blue and lighting up the stalactites. The cave is quite large at 75 meters long, 40 wide and 35 high, making it a rival to the famous Blue Grotto in Capri.
Several taxi boats make the trip throughout the day, depending on the weather. Sometimes the sea can be too high or too rough to enter safely, so the alternative is to swim in-but beware it gets very cold!

Turtle Watching

It is such a pleasure to sit at one of the harbourside cafes and watch the giant Turtles swim by.
They have been back in the area for several years now and it still amazing to see them swim by right in the harbour.
How many there are is unsure but numbers are growing.
