Iles de Lérins

Just a short ride from Cannes stand the two gorgeous islands of St Marguerite and St Honorat, both covered by eucalyptus and pine forests. St Marguerite is the largest, (3km long and 900m wide) and home of Fort Royal where the ‘man in the iron mask’ was imprisoned. It hosts several restaurants, and a boat yard. St Honorat, smaller and less touristy is occupied by an active monastery dating from the 10th century. Both islands are car-free, and have a network of walking trails.

Situated on the heights of Cannes, the old village of Mougins is very charming and home of numerous excellent restaurants including the famous Moulin de Mougin.
Perched a few min drive from Cannes and Antibes, Grasse is known as the perfume capitol of the world. The medieval old town is oozing with Mediterranean charm. Make sure to stop at Le Péché Gourmand for a unique and delightful experience (see ‘Where to eat’).
Another must stop is at one perfume factories:
Set in a splendid mansion, Molinard, 60 Bd Victor Hugo offers very interesting tours and has a workshop where you can create your own perfume. Open daily in season. Tel: +33(0)4 92 42 33 09
Close by in the old town is Fragonard, occupying an opulent 18th century manor, with a museum and guided tours available. Tel: +33(0)4 93 36 44 65. Both places have attractive boutiques. Open daily in season.
