There are a few popular beaches around town: closest to the harbour to the east is the beach just before Portixol, by Nassau Beach Club, followed by a number of beaches towards Arenal, including the 6 km long Platia de Palma. To the west, coves around Cala Major and Illetes offer good swimming and smaller beaches, before reaching the tourist resorts of Portals, Palma Nova, Magaluf and Santa Ponsa. On the swimming pool front, some of the gyms, golf clubs and country clubs have pools; some hotels will also allow non-residents to use their facilities for a fee. There is a large municipal indoor pool at Son Hugo, close to the ring road.
