Designer Series Rendezvous 2017 honoring Ted Hood

July 30, 2017

Twenty-five Ted Hood-designed boats recently gathered in Bristol RI for an enchanting weekend to honor the many accomplishments of the late renowned yachtsman, sailmaker, and naval architect. The yachts’ owners, their friends, members of the Hood family and the marine industry participated in a three-day celebration.

The “Open Boat” cocktail party on Friday night attracted many guests, eager to see the fleet ranging from the original Robin (1959), the 12-meter Nefertiti to the majestic 116’ Whisper.

On Saturday, the boats raced around the bay in light winds and sunny weather. The clambake that evening, was one the event highlights, featuring a moving speech from son Ted Hood and a captivating Q&A panel between Ted Hood’s last assistants Ted Fontaine, Matthew Smith and Ally Maloney.

Participants danced the night away on the music by the local band The Sugarbabies.

A stunning boat parade around Bristol Harbor brought the event to a close on Sunday.

Thank you to founder Andy Tyska from Bristol Marine, organizers Carol Beecher and Kate Wilson, and sons Ted Jr. and Bob Hood for a memorable weekend!
