Newport Shipyard received final approval from the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) on Tuesday, March 28, to expand its dock space by 560 additional feet. This added dock space, which will allow Newport Shipyard to handle more large yachts simultaneously, will add on to its current 2,833 feet of dock space, which will generate an estimated $500,000 in revenue annually.

Michael Mahan has been in the yachting industry for over 30 years, and has watched luxury yachting evolve from a niche, relatively unknown leisure industry to the global powerhouse it is today. As the industry became more professional, more regulated, and more competitive as it matured, Michael recognized the need for a fresh and innovative approach to luxury yacht sales and charter—in fact, he believed an entirely new yacht brokerage business model was called for.

The MYBA Charter Show is moving to a significant new location this year. After taking place in the marine hub of Genoa for the past 16 years, the relocation to Barcelona represents a reinvigoration of the show. OneOcean Port Vell, Barcelona’s five-star marina and home port for superyachts, will host the show for the next three consecutive years.
