Martinique is the second largest island of the lesser Antilles, after Guadeloupe. Also known as l’ile aux Fleurs, French for its original Carib name “Madinina”, it was discovered in 1502 by Christopher Colombus and apart from short periods under the British Empire, has been French since its colonization. Reminiscences of its colorful and intense past are still visible throughout the island. Two very politically influential ladies, who made history back in their time, were born in Martinique, to prominent planters’ families.

Located in the Marin Marina, this spacious and attractively organized chandlery is one of the most popular and busiest services in Le Marin. Le Ship was created more than 10 years ago by the charismatic Viviane Caillot, an experienced sailor herself, who arrived in the Caribbean with her family on a yacht. This specialist supplier of the finest French wines and grocery products is a place not to be missed while in Martinique. It comes highly recommended to us each year, as one of those perfect little 'dedicated' French stores, that has all the most specific, high quality French products... you could only ever find in France! Chateau Latour vintage wines, Deutz champagne (that cannot be bought anywhere else in Martinique), smoked salmon, caviar, les pelures de Truffes, plus Ediard and Valette products.
