The fortified church in San Francesc was built in 1726. The thick walls and small windows make it an unusual looking church;
doubling up as a fortress complete with cannons, it was used to successfully hold off pirate attacks, and to shelter the local inhabitants.

On the eastern side of Formentera, the village of El Pilar de la Mola, set on a rural plateau, is a quiet traditional village well worth a visit.

Gorgeous light house, and familiar site for those sailing in Newport Harbor. Built in 1869, on an 18 acre island set a mile from Newport’s shore. Onsite museum and possibility to spend the night either in the museum, or become the keeper and stay on the second floor!

Few people are aware of New England region wine production. Newport Vineyards is today the region’s largest grower of wine grapes. The winery, located in a complex including a restaurant, gallery, bakery and gift shop, is open to the public for tours and wine tastings. Open daily, 10am-5pm, and noon-5pm Sun.

Newport is known internationally for its famous majestic mansions, a legacy of the town’s prestigious Gilded Age, that have been wonderfully preserved, restored and protected by the Preservation Society of Newport County. 11 historic properties and landscapes - seven of which are National Historic Landmarks – are open to the public for self or guided tours, and some of them are also available for special private events. Among the most impressive are Marble House, The Breakers, Rosecliff, Chateau sur Mer or The Astor’s Beechwood. All are located on Bellevue Avenue.

Known as IYRS, this is a non-profit institution located in an historic building downtown by the water and dedicated to education and maritime preservation. La Ciotat has kept its authenticity and small Provencal fishing port feel, but it also has a rich cultural past. The town is famous for being the place where the Lumière brothers invented the cinema, and the first motion picture ever made was the ‘Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat’ in 1895. The iconic Provencal game of pétanque (boules) was first played here, in 1907.
