More about us...

Today, one can be overwhelmed by the growing population of “virtual” yacht brokers who provide their services only through a computer screen. At Wellington, we are proud to offer much more, as we lead you through the important steps of acquiring or selling a distinctive yacht.

Our brokers have spent the bulk of their careers working on and around boats, with an average of over thirty years in the industry. Among us are former yacht captains, a PhD, an MBA and an engineer/yacht designer.

We actively participate in boat shows and special events and maintain relationships with shipyards and designers globally to keep our knowledge current about everything from the latest megayachts to the most perfect pocket sailboat or weekend express cruiser. We have collectively logged hundreds of thousands of miles at sea, gaining important insight and vision along the way.

Please stop by and visit us at our Rhode Island office, where we are surrounded by two of the largest marina/yacht repair facilities in New England and a host of other marine services, visit our satellite office in Portland, Maine, at the Maine Yacht Center, or browse through our Site of featured superyachts and other yachts of distinction.

The subject of mainsail rig and furling systems is an important one, and the question of “What is best?” invariably comes up early on when reviewing sailboats with clients.

GRATEFUL For Family Time

A very nice couple with three boys from the Midwest approached us last summer to begin looking at a few sailboats. By late August, with COVID showing no signs of relief and schools unlikely to re-open, the family decided to acquire a sailboat for a winter of cruising and home schooling “away from it all.” They figured that if the kids were going to be “remote learning” anyway, and with sports cancelled, they might as well be together in an idyllic location.

Winning the 13-boat PHRF Aloha Class and the Arthur Curtiss James Trophy for best corrected time was the 45’ wooden yawl ZINGARA, owned by Mike McAllister (Providence, R.I.) and skippered by Bill Haynie (Newport, R.I.), who is her listing agent. “She’s my favorite all-time boat: beautiful and surprisingly fast. We managed to get around efficiently and not break anything. We beat all the modern boats, and we did it with style.”  Haynie said he wasn’t considering the event until he heard about the inshore option.

Here at Wellington, we offer more than just brokerage services. The COVID-19 pandemic, and the tough situation that it left many yacht owners in, served to highlight some of the background pre- and post-sale work that our brokers offer to clients. Though many brokers (including us!) serve as consultants or liaisons to help clients communicate and negotiate with yards and contractors during a deal, we take it a few steps further.
