Biking in Martha's Vineyard Massachusetts

A great way to explore the Vineyard is by bike via the 100+ miles of bike paths that take you to the beach, state forests or from town to town.

The “down-island” route links Vineyard Haven to Oak Bluffs to Edgartown and back (roughly 25 mile round trip). It is mostly flat, with a mix of road and bike paths.

Experienced riders can bike “up-island” to Chilmark and Aquinnah, (more than 20 miles each way from Vineyard Haven) with breathtaking country landscapes and ocean views.

Beaches in Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard is famous for its scenic beaches. Among the nicest is Joseph A. Sylvia State Beach, a great family beach located between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown on Beach Rd. It is easy to reach via the bike paths.

Located at the bridge between Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, Eastville Beach offers great panoramic views. Lighthouse Beach is located near Edgartown’s center (a short walk from North Water St) and is quiet and safe for children.

Biking in Nantucket Massachusetts

Nantucket has over 24 miles of bicycle paths on mostly flat terrain, providing an ideal environment for biking. Bike paths are separated from the adjacent roadways and link many areas of the island. A ride to the charming village of Sconset, 8 miles east of town, is highly recommended. Other popular rides include the more hilly 12 mile round trip to Madaket, offering views of ponds and moors, or you can take the short ride to Surfside Beach.
