Built on the site of an existing Mosque after the defeat of the Moors, the Cathedral dominates the sea front of Palma and is the central landmark of the harbour. A visit to this imposing, awe inspiring and iconic building is a must whilst in Palma, followed by a stroll around the surrounding gardens. At night, the view of the illuminated Cathedral gives a unique atmosphere to the whole harbour.

Next door to the Cathedral, this Moorish Palace was originally built as a Citadel, and became the residence of Mallorcan Kings from the 14thC. It is still today the official residence of the King and Queen of Spain.
The main highlights are the separate Kings and Queens quarters, the Great Hall and St. Anne’s Chapel.

A week long classic yacht race, held every summer in mid August. The regattas involve classic, vintage and traditional yachts and boats, and start off from Club de Mar. The event is organised by the Royal Hispanic Vintage Boat Foundation.
Or to give it the correct Spanish title, Copa del Rey; The Kings Cup Regatta was first held in 1982, and has built up a reputation as a showcase event for top class racing teams. A week of racing and socializing is topped off with the gala prize giving dinner, usually attended by members of the Spanish Royal family. Hosted by the Club Real Nautico, the 2011 event will take place from July 30th - August 6th.. www.copadelreyaudimapfre.com
The Horus Superyacht Cup is a four day event; that attracts private mega sailing yachts to the bay of Palma for some superb day racing.
This is a unique event where social barriers are somehow blurred, as yacht owners and professional crew engage together in competitive sailing. This is also for many skippers and owners a unique opportunity to sail their own yacht to its full potential.
Probably one of, if not the main social event for yachties in Palma, during which yacht crews team up and compete against each other for this much coveted trophy. The annual event takes place at the end of October (dates for 2011 are 13th to 15th of October). It’s a lot of fun, and the closing dinner is the highlight of the yachting social calendar.
Well recommended school situated in downtown Palma offering a complete range of Spanish courses. Beginner, advanced and intensive courses are on offer; they all run frequently and are reasonably priced. The school also offers an on line tuition option.

The Club Nautico manages the visitor’s quay on the south side of the harbour. It is usually an extremely busy and not so comfortable place to stay. However, the harbour, set in a long and deep Cala, is very attractive and the old town close by is well worth a visit. Putting aside the shortage of berthing options, Ciutadella should not be missed.

A small marina set in a very attractive and very long Cala on the north eastern coast of Menorca. The approach is not straight forward, but the setting makes the effort to be worthwhile. There are some visitor’s berths at the local yacht club, on the southern side of the south pontoon.

A swell can come in the bay with strong northerlies.
