YACHT MAINTENANCE

Newport is considered by most to be the yachting capitol of the U.S. Once a busy colonial seaport built around a large, protected harbor, the town is now a thriving year-round yachting community with a large choice of first class marinas, a world renowned shipyard, a wide range of qualified technicians and top notch provisioning options. One look at the harbor during the summer – with hundreds of yachts on moorings and marinas full of Superyachts – shows how popular Newport has become for both visiting yachts and those based here all summer, with easy access to all the cruising grounds of Southern New England.

Once home to the America’s Cup, Newport now hosts more yachting events than any other town as visitors come to enjoy the reliable sea breezes and an incredible array of excellent restaurants, eclectic boutiques, historic inns and an extremely well preserved downtown that reflects its colonial past and gilded age grandeur. Further north on Aquidneck Island, the towns of Middletown and Portsmouth are also home to many more marine related services, most conveniently located in the Melville Marine District, a sprawling yachting center along Portsmouth’s west side. Other attractions including several golf courses, hiking trails, beautiful beaches, seaside parks and scenic bike routes.

We are thrilled to announce that the 2019 (the 11th edition!) of the New England Yacht Insider's Guide will be available soon from Maine to Connecticut, including Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and Block Island!
We are so grateful for our loyal advertisers, many of them supporting us since the very beginning, and all the wonderful friendships we built since we started the guides in 2009!

And once again, a huge thank you to Billy Back for this stunning cover and all the photos that make our guides so attractive!

Newport Shipyard
March 20, 2018

When Charlie Dana’s wife rang in the middle of the night on a sailing trip to let him know that the last remaining shipyard in Newport was going to be put up for auction, Dana just couldn’t stop thinking about it. The yard’s fourth bankruptcy had obviously taken its toll, and though it would mean throwing away almost four centuries of Newport history, it was time to say goodbye and turn the once-booming yard into something a bit more modern… like condos. Or timeshares. This idea appalled the long-time sailor and former Commodore of the New York Yacht Club.

The New England Yacht Insider's Guide | 2009-2017 Editions
January 16, 2018

It's hard for us to believe, but 2018 will mark 10 years since we first published the Yacht Insider's Guide in 2009, as we go to press with the 10th edition this coming May.

We are grateful to have had the support of so many in the yachting community during the past 9 years, and to have formed many new friendships and relationships as we worked on the guidebook and website.

2017 Candy Store Cup
August 4, 2017

Sailors couldn't have asked for a sweeter experience at the 2017 Candy Store Cup Superyacht Edition. The event showcased some of the world's most spectacular and technologically sophisticated luxury sailing yachts racing off Newport, R.I. on Thursday through Saturday (July 27-29) and provided three days of wildly varied conditions, courtesy of Mother Nature, as well as a full slate of colorful social events, courtesy of co-hosts Bannister's Wharf and Newport Shipyard, the latter of which was headquarters for the event and home to most of the fleet while not racing.
